DE HEALTHY BAKER
( a brief history)
When my husband Ron started experiencing severe stomach problems, we started
looking for a solution. With doctors not knowing the cause I decided to start
researching causes myself. I remembered talking with my best friend Regina in
the past about eating gluten free. Regina had told me how much better she felt
once she had changed her diet. At that time it seemed like too much work to bake
without regular flour. Now however, I suspected that gluten was my husband's
problem. So I started baking gluten free. How hard could it be? I've been baking
since before I could even walk. My grandmother and my mother both taught me how
to bake.
WELL...At first it was like cement. My gluten free baking was tasteless and
disgusting. It was very discouraging. I started buying other gluten free
products and became even more discouraged. I thought to myself, “if people have
to eat this way, they might as well stay sick”.
During this period I rededicated my life to my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I had
taken a hard look at myself and saw a huge imbalance in my life.
Surrending everything to the Lord was like a 360 in my life. WOW! What a change.
I prayed and asked the Lord to help me. I then started waking up at 2 and 3
o'clock in the morning with God telling me what to add to make my recipes.
Inspired I would get out of bed and begin baking. AND IT WORKED! My husband woke
to food at his lips and the words "Try this". He was soon on a gluten-free diet
and a gluten-free baker was born. Ron's stomach problems went away and he even
lost 25 pounds while feeling more energetic.
Ron was so impressed that he booked two shows for me to display my gluten-free
foods at. Although I tried to say “No”, he was adamant. I knew God was calling
me to do this, so I went and did the two shows. and soon had a number of people
wanting me to bake for them. Growing too big to keep up at home, Ron suggested I
open a gluten free bakery. It has long been a dream of mine to own a bakery. God
truly does give you the desires of your heart. And he has blessed us so much, We
found a wonderful location at a price we could afford. We approached our good
friend Don to join us in the venture and after prayer he accepted, believing
that this is where God wanted him. After four months of 80 hour weeks,
researching, leasing, renovating and learning, we finally opened on May 1st,
2009.
I continue to bake and create new foods all the time. We have found such a need
in the community...Not just for gluten free but for so many other allergies as
well. We feel honored to be able to contribute and help make the lives of others
a little better.

De Healthy Baker is not just another bakery. It is a gluten-free bakery. All of
our products are gluten free as we strive to serve those who suffer from celiac,
autism, I.B.S., wheat allergies and other problems. We also serve those who need
lactose free, egg free and sugar free foods as well as any others who live with
food allergies. Our goal is to make great tasting food so that those with these
problems can once again have choice in their diet. We are constantly trying new
recipes and ideas as we try to add to the foods our customers can eat. We now
make three different types of delicious perogies, tasty waffles and an addictive
cream cheese tart. We look forward to serving our community and adding to the
quality of life of our customers.
